A+ YouTube, a Thesis on imitation of veins and much more.
A love letter to the conservation and study of Polychromed Wooden Sculpture and all the cool resources about it around the net. It’s a one-year bi-monthly newsletter project done just for fun. It’s also not perfect and doesn’t intend to, but rather a space to share. Edited in Catalan and English. Read here past newsletters.
L’àngel de l’anunciació Gabriel, 1415-50, Nord de França, roure policromat i daurat. — The Angel Gabriel from the Annunciation, about 1415-50, Northern France, oak, polychromed and gilded. Museum n. A10-1914. Foto de/from 2019
📷(Regne Unit).
(United Kingdom) The Victoria and Albert Museum and its collection of sculptures (some of it polychromed wood). From all of them, I was captivated by this angel. I remember staring for quite some time at those wings, and the polychromy still visible on them. If you want to know more, and also the conservation treatment, check this.

🤓 una invitació + 🔎 Parlant de qui seguir (Espanya) :— an invitation + who to follow (Spain)
Like many I thought that natural hair in sculpture was usual in baroque sculptures until I read this super interesting article Tela encolada y cabello natural como técnicas aplicadas a la escultura tardogótica. (=Sizing fabric and natural hair as applied techniques in Late Gothic Sculpture). It is written by the professor and sculpture conservator Francisco Javier Casaseca García. If you still are hungry for more, hold on: his PhD on this subject is completely available online. Aaaand if you still want some more he has also a vast range of very interesting articles in Spanish.

🎥 The Conservation Netflix (Alemanya/Germany)
The Liebieghaus Sculpture Sammlung has a YouTube channel that is ridiculously good. Furthermore, they even have really-really well-done exhibitions available for free online. A wonderful example? this one of ancient greek and roman sculpture polychromy 🌈.

Examination, conservation and restoration of a late gothic crucifix of the St. Moritzkirche in Naumburg / The imitation of veins on late gothic crucifixes de/by Karoline Danz.
Unfortunately, I still have not been able to access to read this thesis, however, it seems to me so interesting that it deserves to be highlighted!
