📬 La newsletter del divendres #15 — The Friday's newsletter #15
Una escultura finlandesa, la restauració preventiva a un retaule, un blog norueg i molt més — A Finnish sculpture, a preventive conservation treatment in an altarpiece, a norwegian blog and much more
A love letter to the conservation and study of Polychromed Wooden Sculpture and all the cool resources about it around the net. It’s a one-year bi-monthly newsletter project done just for fun. It’s also not perfect and doesn’t intend to, but rather a space to share. Edited in Catalan and English. Read here past newsletters.

(Finland) The story of a sculpture and its way to a new exhibition, and an excuse to present a museum’s collection that I have not visited yet, but I definitely keep on my list of musts. I am talking about the Suomen kansallismuseo: worth checking their Website and Instagram, aaand Youtube channel.

🤓 una invitació (EUA) — an invitation (USA)
(…) Furthermore, how might we introduce into displays the narratives of making? And, above, all how might we suggest the original contexts of sculptures, along with their attendant meanings? One possibility of course is lengthy text panels but how can these work without distracting from the sculptures themselves? (…)

🎥 The Conservation Netflix (Bèlgica/Belgium)
— Dusting dusting dusting 🧹. A very much-needed preventive conservation task on this beautiful altarpiece, by KIK-IRPA at the Musée de la Ville de Bruxelles.

Today I mention a really interesting expo with barely any information online: “Les premiers retables. Une mise en scène du sacré"(=The first altarpieces. A presentation of the sacred”) that took place more than a decade ago at the Musée du Louvre and was organized by Pierre Yves Le Pogam with the assistance of Christine Vivet-Peclet. Thankfully, there is at least a wonderful catalogue to check out.

Undersøkelser av middelalderens maleteknikker is one of this gem blogs that thankfully, stil exist! (I’m the only one still rotting for blogs?). It is written mostly in Norwegian but also in English by the painting and polychrome sculpture conservator Kaja Kollandsrud (the name rings a bell?) and fuuuull of articles and links around (mostly) polychrome wooden sculpture.

Barroc + policromia 🌈 + nord d’Espanya.
Baroque + polychromy 🌈 + north of Spain. All, in this beautiful book by Marisa Gómez González: La policromia de retablos en el norte de España: Asturias, siglos XVII-XVIII (=The polychromy of altarpieces in the north of Spain: Asturias, XVII and XVIII centuries). Some tiny glimpses here and here.

Sempre l’he trobat hiptònica!
(Spain) Let’s forget one moment of the awful photo quality and framing of the picture to observe the curious solution for the exhibition of these fragmented pieces of Saint Anthony of Padua (it was originally a “dressed sculpture”) by Gregorio Fernández, 1620-1630, currently at the Museu Marès (Spain). I find it always hypnotizing 📸 meva/mine in 2019?
