📬 La newsletter del divendres #8 — The Friday's newsletter #8
La manipulació d'obres, les Vesperbild, escultures d'un petit país i molt més — On the handling of cultural heritage, the Vesperbild, the sculptures of a little country and much more.
A love letter to the conservation and study of Polychromed Wooden Sculpture and all the cool resources about it around the net. It’s a one-year bi-monthly newsletter project done just for fun. It’s also not perfect and doesn’t intend to, but rather a space to share. Edited in Catalan and English. Read here past newsletters.
(Norway) Discovering a beautiful sculpture from the Universitetsmuseet i Bergen, that also has a polychromy reconstruction that you can see here. If you’re still hungry to know more, the museum has a new catalogue which looks like 😍 (here is the link to its online presentation by Justin Kroesen. You might remember him from some newsletters ago).

🤓 una invitació (Espanya/ Xile) — an invitation (Spain/Chile)
Conservación de objetos patrimoniales2 fet a Xile i igualment molt recomanable.
I remember when I found the publication Frágil. Curso sobre manipulación de bienes culturales (Fragile. Course on the handling of cultural heritage3) and not believe that would be possible to have this for free (!) and online. For a long time, Spain has done great work in the area of digital sharing (although in my opinion it is often unknown abroad and with little recognition in the country). This publication is a wonderful example focused on a subject that we should all know more about. P.S. Recently I also discover the Catálogo de materiales para embalaje. Conservación de objetos patrimoniales4(=Packaging materials Catalogue. The conservation of cultural heritage objects) from Chile, is also very advisable.

🔎 (Bélgica) Parlant de qui seguir: P.hD. Jana Sanyova. Sempre interessants i sempre complexos!
(Belgium) P.hD. Jana Sanyova. She has a very large list of publications (and not just in polychromed wooden sculpture). Always interesting, always complex!

😍 una exposició somiada (Itàlia) — a dreamy exhibition (Italy)
Vesperbild.
Vesperbild. Alle origini della Pietà di Michelangelo was an italian exhibition dedicated precisely to the origins of the Piety of Michel Angelo, the famous Vesperbild. The exhibition showed artworks from XIV and XV centuries, currently in different European museum collections. The exhibition not only included sculpture, but also paintings. The few things that I could found online with some of the content of this exhibition is this video as well as this website. It is truly a bummer that there is no more, since the catalogue is really promising (edited in Italian). An example: the beautiful medieval Vesperbild of the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung Museum.

It is always interesting to get to know the cultural heritage of other countries, specially if they are small countries. Andorra, in the middle of the Pyrenees, is one of them. I came across this free online publication of the exhibition catalogue of Benvingudes a casa vostra! Les obres d’art patrimonials fora d’Andorra6 (= Wellcome to your home! Cultural Heritage artworks outside Andorra). It focuses around a common phenomenon, the cultural heritage of a country spread in many others. The publication does not only discuss sculpture (in fact has a wonderful section on mural paintings) and has a many of old photographs of the artworks on site worth to check in. Edited in Catalan.

Fins aquí l’entreteniment setmanal. Ens veiem en dues setmanes? That’s a wrap for this week's entertainment. See you in two weeks?
— (France) Because if you can not go to Paris, Paris comes to your computer 🖥: a selection of the artworks of the Musée de Cluny in 3D here. P.S. It is always worthy to check the back of all the sculptures!

Elgueta Ortega, J., Naranjo Mogollones, Natalia. i/and de la Calle Morales, F.(2022). Catálogo de materiales para embalaje. Conservación de objetos patrimoniales, Xile: Centro Nacional de Conservación y Restauración. Unidad de Patrimonio Arqueológico y Etnográfico.
It is the result of a workshop celebrated at the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (Spain) in 2012, published by the Spanish Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte. I added a link that is more easy to check but this publication, along many interesting ones, can be found for free here:
https://www.libreria.culturaydeporte.gob.es (in case you stil doubt what I mean about really sharing!)

Benvingudes a casa vostra: Les obres d'art patrimonials fora d'Andorra. Andorra: Govern d’Andorra.
See note 5. // ✍️ On a side note: I can not always put the bibliographic reference of all the articles mentioned (and linked) because I have a limit length with this newsletter. So if it is not shared it is because of that. However I try to put as many as I can aaaand you have always the links.
